Carolyn Glenn

Carolyn Thompson Cummings Glenn passed away on March 3, 2024. She had been suffering from late stage Alzheimer’s disease and it is truly a blessing that she is now free from its grip and free to be the Carolyn we all knew and loved.

She was born in Washington D.C. on March 28, 1947 to Harold G. Cummings and Pauline Adams. Her father was from Washington, D.C. and her mother’s family was from The Plains, VA. She attended Holton-Arms School nearby in Bethesda, MD and Hollins College, Roanoke, VA.

While attending Hollins she met Guy M. Glenn, Sr. during her Senior year at Hollins, who was attending Washington and Lee University Law School. They were married November 28, 1970. Their trail started in Lexington, VA, then to Houston, TX, Waterville, WA and finally back to the area Guy grew up in, Long Beach, WA in 1974.

She is survived by three children plus one, Guy M. Glenn, Jr. and Suzie, Carrie M. Glenn and Justin, Tucker A. Glenn and Edie and our foreign exchange student she wanted her to kids to experience, Voja Andjelkovic and Jenny, who became a member of our family. Grandchildren are John N. Glenn, McKenzie Carolyn Glenn, Erika A. Glenn, Kolby A. Glenn, Samuel E. Glenn, Isaac L Glenn, Dalton Kelly, Kyle Kelly, Kelsey White, Bella Andjelkovic, Luka Andjelkovic, Maia Andjelkovic and Brooke S. Holmes. And great-grandchildren, Dallas Kelly, Devynn Kelly, Krue Kelly, Paisley Jo Carolyn Strange, Ripley White and Kash Kelly.

Carolyn began her career working for a congressman on Capitol Hill as his legislative assistant, then a lobbyist in Washington, DC.. After meeting Guy, she began a lifetime of volunteering for various community service projects wherever she was. She enjoyed working at the Cranguyma Farms nursery while it was still operating. The highlight of her public service began with a phone call from Rex Ziak a Pacific County, WA historian who had researched the fact that Lewis and Clark historians had totally skipped their arrival at Station Camp near Chinook, WA and the next 18 days in Pacific County, WA. Carolyn engaged, the Pacific County Friends of Lewis and Clark was formed and her involvement as co-leader of the Bicentennial commemoration was launched. The fact that she was a Virginian connected her directly to both the beginning of the trail with Jefferson at Monticello, VA and Cape Disappointment near Ilwaco, WA. Her political experience on Capitol Hill, her innate persuasive/sales skills and unstoppable determination were all exhibited in this endeavor. The Friends presented a very successful Bicentennial in 2005,”Ocian in view”, for which she never wanted any credit with funds in the bank that were transferred to support the North Head lighthouse. She was always resourceful and frugal.

A funeral and celebration of her life will be held at St. Peter Episcopal Church, at the Peninsula Church Center, Seaview, WA on Saturday April 13, 2024 at 1:00 PM to be followed by an interment of ashes at the Lone Fir Cemetery, Sandridge Rd, Long Beach, WA.. A reception will follow at the PCCRF Hall on Pioneer Rd at the Washington State Research Station.

She would not want flowers and she was very intent on supporting the local food banks. Any contribution to a donor’s favorite charity is also encouraged.
