Curtis Hunter Obituary

Curtis McDow Hunter passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025, at 4:10 a.m. Curtis was born in and was a lifelong resident of Lynchburg, VA.

He is survived by his two children and grandson: Claralynne Williams in Suffolk, VA; and Mark David Hunter and grandson Mark David Hunter ii in Clemmons, NC.

Curtis was born on October 14, 1931, to Clarence David and Hilda Cyrus Hunter. in Virginia Baptist Hospital Lynchburg, VA. He grew up as a member of Inglewood Baptist Church and served in the Navy during the Korean War; He was a long time member of the Woodmen of the World. Curtis had a long and varied work career. He began by working as a paper boy for the Lynchburg News and Advance at the age of 12. When he was in high school (E.C. Glass) he won the News and Advance's paper boy of the year. He worked as a conductor on Norfolk Southern Railroad, insurance agent for Life of Virginia, quality controller for G.E., fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Exxon and Phillips 66 station owner, and established his own business, National Battery Sales. He spent the last years of his working career as a successful manager of an East Coast station.
