David L. Blue, age 64 of Jamestown, North Carolina, formerly of Lafayette, died at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, NC on Monday, September 22, 2008. Born in Lafayette on April 28, 1944, he was the son of the late Donald W. and Emma (Hainje) Blue. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1962 and attended Indiana University where he was a brother in Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He joined the Indiana National Guard for 10 years starting in 1965, where he was decorated as a rifle marksman. He graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and was appointed to the Indiana State Police in 1966. He married Carolyn L. (Null) Blue on July 5, 1969 in Lafayette, and she survives. During his last ten years with the State Police he served as the Public Information Officer for the Lafayette Post. His service inspired a new generation of law enforcement officers in his close work with the Indiana State Police Career Camp until his retirement in 1986. He then went on to work as owner/operator of Subway restaurants in Indiana and Illinois, and also worked in security at the Federal Building in Lafayette. For the past 4 years he and his wife have called Greensboro, NC home. Surviving with his wife are two sons: Patrick Blue of Jamestown North Carolina and Robert Blue of Lafayette and two brothers: Ronald Blue (wife, Judith) of Stone Mountain, Georgia and Wendel Blue (wife, Susan) of Marietta, Georgia. A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 26th at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Rev. Dr. Ronald Wunsch officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of donor's choice and/or the Indiana Police Alliance. David was a devoted father and husband. Hippensteel Funeral Home entrusted with care.
