David Handley Obituary

Dave was born on September 8th 1954 in Kansas City, MO to James Mark and Betty (Wales) Handley, while his father was attending medical school at the University of Kansas. His family moved to Colorado in 1960 and then to Glendale, California in 1962 and then on to Santa Maria in 1965. He graduated from Ernest Righetti High School in Santa Maria in 1972. He started calling the Eastern Sierra home when he was nineteen. He spent most of his working years working as a metal fabricator for Mammoth Mountain Ski Area. In 1990 he married Elizabeth (Beth) Marten. They lived in Mammoth Lakes and raised their daughters there. He had a deep love of the mountains and driving down that random dirt road, just to see where it would go. Upon retirement he moved to Bishop.
He passed away November 9th 2024 at Renown Hospital in Reno. He is preceded in death by his parents and stepmother. He is survived by his daughters, Stori Plush and Allie Handley, Stori's husband Jake and their sons, Maverick and Laramie; his brothers, Scott Handley and wife Melanie, Mike and wife Virginia, his sisters, Laurie Handley, and Judy Purdin and husband Kenny, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on April 12, 2025 at Bishop City Park at 12:00 p.m.

Hi there!! My name is Lori. I was dating Dave from @ summer 2021 - summer 2022. We remained close friends... till his passing. We had made plans to go to see a Neuro surgeon in Carson City. The night before he had a bad fall and was air flights to Reno NV.
I never saw him again after that . I still grieve for him, but have so many good memories. He liked to go exploring - so did l .
I am sending a photo of us taken at his retirement party. We´ll see you at his service.
