He will be lovingly missed by his children: Arline Mackay of Rutland, MA, Ladd Ljungberg of Westport, CT, Jon Ljungberg of Winnipeg, Canada, and Nils (Karen) Ljungberg of Charlton, MA, ten grandchildren: Kelly, Brooks (Kali), Brandon (Kaitlin), Brittney, Ryan, Christopher, Davey (Brittany), Michael, Bobby and Lindsey, nine great grandchildren: Alex, Aidan, Ellie, Scotty, Piper, Louie, Ollie, Brody and Leah. David was born and raised in Worcester, MA, the son of Dr. David G. and Florice (Farnum) Ljungberg. He graduated from Worcester Academy in 1949 and received a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Dartmouth College in 1953. Following college, he served in the Marine Corps as an Amphibian Tractor Platoon Leader, achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant at Camp Lejeune, NC. Upon release from active duty, he received his MBA from Cornell University in 1957. He settled in Holden, MA with his growing family, working at the former Norton Company in Worcester as a computer programmer/analyst for 26 yrs. During those years, while living in Holden and then Rutland, he was active in the Holden Little League, becoming President in 1964, and was a member of the Republican Committee in both towns. While living in Rutland, he was active in his church and a member of the Finance Committee. He and his wife were foster parents for 10 years. After moving to Jefferson in 1992, he served on the Board of Directors at Quinapoxet Village for many years. After his retirement from Norton Co., he drove for car dealerships until 2002 when he became caregiver and chauffeur for two of his grandchildren. He always said his grandchildren kept him young, and his love of mystery books and jigsaw puzzles kept his mind sharp. He was blessed to have been able to see all ten grandchildren graduate from high school, all of whom affectionately called him Bucky.
David’s family would like to thank the staff at Blackstone Valley Rehab, UMASS Memorial, Care One and Ascend Hospice for their compassionate care during his last days.
