David B. Magee

David Byron Magee, 81 years old, passed away on March 15, 2022, in Port Charlotte, FL. Dave was born on July 17, 1940, in Jackson, MI to Edward and Charlotte Magee.
Dave grew up in Jackson, MI, graduated from Jackson High in 1958 and then served in the National Guard. Shortly thereafter, he met Ruth Daniel from Parma, MI. Ruth and Dave settled in Dimondale, MI. After retirement, they split their time between homes in Port Charlotte, FL and Coldwater, MI. They have been happily married for 58 years with two daughters, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Dave began his 30-year career at Michigan Bell Telephone Company as a mechanic and worked his way through the ranks to a management position. He supervised crews who installed large business communication systems in the Lansing, MI area. He had unparalleled knowledge of certain business phone systems and was continually sought out for his expertise. After retiring from Michigan Bell, Dave worked at Ingham Medical in Lansing Michigan handling their telecommunications for years. Dave also had his own side-business, Phonemoves.
Dave really enjoyed being a square dance caller and did so for 45 years. He was invited to call at state and national conventions and called for many square dance clubs. He even had the opportunity to call on cruise ships. His love for singing began after high school graduation on a year-long tour of Europe with a youth Christain choir. Over the years he sang at weddings, funerals, was a member of Greater Lansing Men's Choir, and numerous community and church choirs.
Ruth and Dave were active members in many churches in their years together: Victory Baptist Church, Lansing Michigan, Cedar Street Baptist Church, Holt Michigan, and Family Church, Port Charlotte, FL. Their church family is very important to them.
A memorial service will be held at Dave's church, on Tuesday, March 22nd at 4:30 PM, Family Church, 20035 Quesada Ave, Port Charlotte, FL 33952.
Dave is preceded in death by parents Edward and Charlotte Magee, and brother Albert.
He is survived by his loving wife Ruth Magee. Daughter Vicki Magee-Umholtz and her husband Wayne have children Andrew, Kaitlyn, Matthew and Jacob Unholtz. Daughter Becki Willard and her husband Tom have children Laura and Emily Willard. Dave is also survived by two brothers, Edward and Richard Magee.
