Dorothea A. Houston

HOUSTON, Dorothea A., age 87, of Hardyville, Va., died peacefully at her son's home in New Kent on Wednesday, March 30, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Carman B. Houston Sr. She is survived by her son, Carman B. Houston Jr., his wife, Barbara; her grandchildren, Nicole and Logan; and her beloved grandpuppies, Jazz and Izzy. She will be greatly missed by Amy Parker, her devoted nurse; and the staff at Scissor Sounds in Mattaponi. Dorothea was a former employee of Ruark's Marina in Deltaville and was a lifelong member of Christ Church in Christchurch, Va., where she enjoyed being a member of the Altar Guild and the Episcopal Church Women's Night Branch. She enjoyed traveling, the movies, dining out, and spending time with her family. The family will receive friends Friday, April 1, 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Bristow Faulkner Funeral Home in Saluda, Va. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 2, at 11 a.m., in Christ Church in Christchurch, Va. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to the Christ Church Discretionary Fund, P.O. Box 476, Saluda, Virginia 23149.
