Obituary for
Dorothy "Dot" Ashley Price
Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Ashley Price of Sicily Island will be 10:00AM Thursday, July 27, 2023 in the chapel of Young's Community Memorial Winnsboro with Bro. Bobby Ratcliff officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Park Cemetery near Sicily Island under the direction of Young's Community Memorial. Visitation will be from 9:00AM until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Dot was born October 27, 1936 in Kingston, MS and passed from this life on July 22, 2023 in Columbia, LA at the age of 86. She was fifteen when she and her husband, Jr. married. Together, they accomplished much in life, and left the family well-earned and noteworthy legacies. The first, of course, is the acclaimed history of The Donut Shop in Natchez, which they successfully owned and operated for over twenty years. Their second and most satisfying accomplishment together was their home and property in the Leland Community. Dot was especially known for her famous, delicious hot tamales which she took great pride in perfecting for people from all areas to enjoy. She enjoyed sewing to make beautiful clothing for herself and for others, and loved gardening vegetables and beautiful flowers. She also loved to dance, and even taught her nieces to dance the "Jitterbug". Aunt Dot was especially known for her steadfast work ethic, always working hard in anything and everything she set her mind to do.
There are old sayings, "life goes on" and "time heals", but Aunt Dot was special beyond my ability to presently describe. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Sicily Island for many years. She was devout in her religious belief in Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior, which was often a topic of discussion when our family would gather together. She was a loving wife, amazing aunt, and beloved friend, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, J.B. "Jr." Price; her parents, Lonnie and Janie Gober Ashley; her brothers, Willis, George, Prim, Talmadge and Nathan Ashley; and her sisters, Rebecca Mercer, Annie Laura Evans, Sara Maples, Hazel McManus and baby girl Ashley. Those left to cherish her memory include a beloved host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Pallbearers will be Mike Ferguson, Michael Gonzalez, Kevin Byrd, Willis Martin, Lonnie Ashley, Duke Martin and Hunter Ashley. Honorary pallbearers will be Ryder Burnett, Bennie Ratcliff, Ray Campbell and Jerry Wooten.
