Ms. Ebony Lynn Granby of Virginia Beach transitioned peacefully on Monday, July 31st. Ebony was born on January 20th, 1978 in Virginia Beach, Virginia to her late father, John Edward Granby Sr. and mother, Bettye Fleming Granby. She has three siblings; Marcia Antionette Granby-Sprankle of Greensboro, MD, John Edward Granby Jr. (Cynthia) of Alpharetta, GA, and Angie Catrice Granby-White of Virginia Beach, VA. Ebony also leaves to cherish two nieces, two nephews, two niece in-laws, a great nephew and great niece. Ebony was an educator for Virginia Beach City Public Schools for over 19 years. She taught mathematics at Kempsville High School for three years and served as the Guidance Department Chairperson and School Counselor for 16 years at Corporate Landing Middle School. She had a servant's heart who loved to serve her family, friends, colleagues and students. Ebony loved her family and was extremely protective. Once you bonded with Ebony, you were in her circle for life. She was truly a sincere, special, kind and gentle person who will be missed tremendously by her family, a host of friends and colleagues. A Celebration of Ebony's Life will be held on Monday, August 7th at 11:00 AM at First Lynnhaven Baptist Church, 2744 Robert Jackson Drive 23452. The interment will take place on Tuesday, August 8th at 10:00 AM at the Beaver Hill Cemetery, 420 Dr. Martin Luther King Avenue, Edenton, NC 27932. This is Caidi Karpus, mother of Landon Karpus an autistic 7th grade student at CLMS. Ms. Granby was so kind and loving to Landon. He would often say, "She is the only person at school who understands me....." Thank you for everything you did for my boy(s). I remember in January and March of this year when I lost my mom and my step dad, (the boys Nana & Pop) you helped my Landon with his traumatic outburst and greif. There will always be a special place in our family's hearts for Ms Granby.

I worked with Ebony at Corporate Landing Middle School - she and I started there the same year. I loved her immediately. I always called her "My Little e". I respected and admired her immensely. Her kindness, compassion, loving nature and endless patience made her a real treasure. I will love and miss her for the rest of my days, but know she is safe in the arms of the Lord.

My heart truly hurts over the passing of Ebony. She was such a special person that I had the pleasure of knowing at CLMS. We shared many funny moments together, and inside jokes in her office, and I always look forward to seeing her in the hallway every day that I would come into work.
