Survived by daughter Barbara B Short of Cocoa, FL and grandson Stephen R Provost of Elgin, SC.
Mom has a deep passion for music. She and my dad's mom attended the Boston Symphony Orchestra every Friday. She also was an avid skier, loved tennis and traveling. She also enjoyed volunteering for our community. She volunteered for the American Red Cross assisting their annual blood drive. She also assisted with fundraising for the PBS (Public Broadcasting System). She also enjoyed later on in her life visiting nursing homes to spend time with their residents. She was a brownie/girl scout leader for many years and loved passing on her knowledge to us. Mom decided to finish her dream of attending college. She attended Salem State college and received degrees in both English and music. She continued on to obtain her master's degree at Tuft's University both in English and music. She attended college when she was in her 60's, an amazing accomplishment. She worked as a supervisor training telephone operators for New England T & T before getting married. She married Seabury T Short Jr in 1954 and eventually became a permanent resident of Marblehead, MA. After obtaining her degrees, she went on to work for Tuft's University for several years assisting with their ROTC program. (I am very proud of her.)

I only just found this out today. I'm so sad, January we had a great conversation and caught up on life events and talked about a visit when I moved down in April.
Since 1967ish Ellie was our neighbor in Marblehead and in later years in Naples, too!. Our families were so close enjoying many holidays, dinners ,etc. After my dad passed Seab and Ellie were still neighbors in Mhead and Naples, so close by for mom. We enjoyed many holidays and dinners with the Shirts. They loved watching our boys grow up and their school, sports, scouting adventures, and their military experiences. Ellie was always interested in their adventures and was genuinely proud of their accomplishments. When Seab passed, Mom and Ellie were like college kids living down the hall from each other! They looked out for each other and with another lady friend we joked they were like the golden girls! Now all three golden girls are together again and dad and Seab having lots of laughs.

So sad to find out of Ellie's passing. She and Seab were like aunt and uncle to our family. Neighbors from Marblehead to Naples at Indies West and Moorings Park. It was so great for mom and Ellie to be living just down the hall from each other. Best neighbors ever!! Glad to have had a nice conversation with Ellie just a month ago. We were looking forward to seeing each other this month. When I tried to arrange a visit and heard the news. She was an amazing bright sweet caring woman. She worked so hard at Tufts and seems like she only stopped working a few years ago. She, my mom, and another friend Mary Alice were like the golden girls at Moorings Park. They looked out for each other every day. Now they are enjoying their movie nights and dinner together again.

My deepest condolences to the Short family for this sad loss. Ellie hired me to work in her office at the Tufts Parents Program while I was an undergrad there. She taught me so much during our time together. I admired her determined and hard-working nature, which enabled her to create new projects and initiatives and garner support from Tufts administration over the years. She brought out the best in those around her with her encouragement and positivity. We knew she demanded our best work and we wanted to make her proud! I am sharing a photo taken at her retirement party at Tufts, taken circa 2005, I believe. I will always be grateful for her mentorship and friendship.

Ellie was and ever will be unforgettable. She lit up a room and brightened the day of those around her. She worked hard and accomplished much, always in style, with a smile, and with a sparkle in her eye. Many good memories!
