Rocky Mount, NCElvira Lynch Jones was born on Saturday May 23, 1942, in
Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Bruce and Lula Lynch. She departed this earthly life to be in the presence of the Lord on Friday June 23, 2023, at UNC-Chapel Hill Hospital.
She was a lifelong resident of the South Rocky Mount Community. At the early age she joined Foster Memorial Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev Foster. Later she joined Ebenezer Baptist Church where she served faithfully as a deaconess and assisted with the youth department. In 2016,she became a member and later the First Lady of Mt. Zion Holiness Church in Nashville, North Carolina.
Elvira received her education through Rocky mount public school systems. She was employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Guardian Care Rehabilitation for 35 years where she made many friends, she was devoted and loved by her patients and co-workers.
Lady Elvira Jones will always be remembered for loving everyone she came in contact with. She was straightforward, humorous, and sweet all in one. If you ever visited Elvira's home, you would fall in love with her hospitality and home cooking. We will never forget the taste of her southern collard greens, sweet potato jacks, homemade chicken and potato salad.
She was united in holy matrimony to James Earl Jones on December 28, 1967, out of this union five boys and three daughters were born. She was preceded in death by two sons Norman and Melvin Jones,son in law, Thomas Battle and four brothers Melvin, Oliver, Wilbert, and John Lynch.
She leaves to cherish her memories of this life her devoted and caring husband, Dr. James Earl Jones, three sons,James Norman Jones of Greenville, NC, Christopher Jones (Fanetta) of Winston Salem, NC, and Donald (Velma) of
Rocky Mount, NC., special nephew that she reared as her own, Michael (Iris) Deloach. Three daughters,Cynthia Sharpe (Richard) of Wilson, NC Christina Taylor (Benjamin) and Sharon Jones both of
Rocky Mount, NC; two brothers,Bruce Lynch Jr. of Freeport, NY, Jessie (Doretha) of Cameron, NC; one sister, Earline Epps (Alfred) of Rocky Mount.;one sister-in-law,Forretta Davis of Durham, NC, twelve grandchildren: Terrel Joyner, Christopher Joyner, Donald Jones Jr., Dontrell Roberts, Maya Joyner, Zha'Nya Jones, Ja'teha Percy, Marquell Jones, Kadin Jones, Ariana Jones, Christopher Jones Jr., and Blake Taylor, three great grandchildren: Carter Joyner, Elijah Neal, and baby Jayceon. two special friend, Bernice Lynch and Louise Battle and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.
A Visitation will be held for Mrs. Jones on Friday, June 30, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at East End Baptist Church located at 928 E. Highland Avenue in
Rocky Mount, North Carolina beginning at 11:00 am. The Interment will take place immediately after the service at the Gardens of Gethsemane in
Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
