Obituary of Gary Lee Freking
Gary Lee Freking, 87, of Independence, KY, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood. The son of the late Leslie and Martha Louise {Powell} Freking, Gary was born in Ludlow, KY, on October 6, 1936. He married the love of his life, Nancy {Kendall}, on September 1, 1962. He was a proud United States Army Veteran and retired from the Carpenters Union in Cincinnati, OH, after more than 35 years of service as a Journeyman Carpenter.
As a child, Gary was baptized at Erlanger Christian Church. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, farming tobacco, and catching every UK Basketball, Bengals, and Cincinnati Reds game broadcasted. He was a gunsmith and held lifetime memberships with the NRA and NMLRA.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 61 years, Nancy Freking; son Jerry (Bobbie) Freking; daughter Sherry (Glenn) Keith; "adopted daughter" Lesa Rider; grandchildren Tara (Michael) Reid, Jimmy (Shanna) Keith, and Jared (Stephanie) Freking; great-grandchildren Wyatt Freking, Avery and Harper Keith, Wesson Reid, Cayden and Brody Dotson; brother Donnie (Brenda) Freking; and sisters Connie Freking (Stephanie) and Shelley (Joe Glass) Hines.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Freking, and two grandbabies, Jeremy and Ryan Freking.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023 from 10 AM and 12 PM with a funeral service to immediately follow at 12 PM at Nicholson Christian Church, 1970 Walton Nicholson Rd., Independence, KY 41051. Gary will be interred at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown, KY, where military rites will be held. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society by clicking here.
