Gerald grew up near Oddville in Harrison County and graduated from Oddville High School. He was self-employed in Real Estate and Insurance over 70 years. He served on several community organizations and bank boards. He had interests in golf, land development, nature, conservation, community development, UK sports, family outings and especially family vacations in Garden City Beach South Carolina and dining in Murrells Inlet South Carolina.
Gerald is survived by his wife of seventy-five years, Bonnie Bradford Whalen; one son, Bradford (Melissa) Whalen; three daughters, Nancy Farmer, Gerry (John) Whalen, and Terry L. (Wayne D. Hood) Whalen; eighteen grandchildren, Neil (Katie Rose) Farmer, Ben (Kristin) Farmer, Nick (Ashley) Farmer, Evan Farmer, Robert (Edna) Whalen, John (Kelly) Whalen II, Tiffany (David) Mowbray, Isaac (Heather) Whalen, Mackenzie (Blake) Leathers, Niki (Dave) Gutierrez, Amy (James) Snapp, Rus (Emily) Whalen, Hank (Ashley) Whalen, Polly (Kate Jackson) Whalen, Harley Sallee, Summer (Andrew) Monson, Mia Hill, Jolie Hill; and nineteen great-grandchildren, Warren Farmer, Rowan Farmer, Silas Farmer, Aldo Farmer, Kayla Whalen, Jack Whalen, Kate Whalen, Lillian Mowbray, Amelia Mowbray, Everett Mowbray, Wyatt Mowbray, Sadie Jean Leathers, Jodie Leathers, Slade Leathers, Ryder Whalen, Brooks Whalen, Emma Whalen, Madeline Whalen, and Lincoln Whalen.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 23rd at Ware Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Monday, January 22nd at Ware Funeral Home. Burial will be at Battle Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ashland Terrace Independent Living Community, 475 S Ashland Avenue, Lexington KY 40502 or Cynthiana Christian Church.
