Funeral Services: Will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Fontanelle with burial in the Fontanelle Cemetery. Pastor Samuel Ansong will officiate the service. The Lamb Funeral Home in Fontanelle is in charge of the professional arrangements. Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at the Lamb Funeral Home in Fontanelle from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Fontanelle United Methodist Church, Fontanelle Fire and Rescue or to the Greenfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Glen Frank was born on the old home place NW of Fontanelle. Always an outdoor guy, Glen practically grew up on a horse, liked working with all the livestock, and loved everything about farming. Growing up, Glen worked at his grandfather's produce station on Wednesday evenings, as well as Saturday noon and evenings, learning how to candle eggs and test cream. He stayed busy the entire evening buying eggs, produce, cream, chicken, ducks, geese, turkeys, cow hides, and furs as people came to town to buy and sell. Working with horses was a passion his whole life, and he was always an excellent horseman. After completing the 8th grade, he farmed with his father using Percheron draft horses. His dad gave Glen his first pair of colts, Queen and Dinah, which he broke and trained as a lead team. Glen helped other farmers as well, working for Herman Marckmann in 1941, earning $40/month. Herman once commented that Glen was the best hired man he had ever had. Glen continued to farm with Percheron draft horses the first 4 years he was farming on his own. In 1946, he bought his first tractor, an A John Deere, but still used the horses for planting. Over the years, Glen broke many horses for his Dad, as well as for a number of other farmers. He learned how to shoe horses and shear sheep from his uncle John and continued to shear sheep for 30 years. Glen still had all his Grandpa Frank's shoeing equipment.
On December 21, 1941, Glen was united in marriage to Mildred Lauretta Jacobson in Joplin, Missouri. To this union were born three children, Gary, Sherilyn and Roger. The family lived on three Adair County farms before moving to the current residence in Fontanelle. Glen and Lauretta loved country music and enjoyed going to many dances. Glen always felt blessed to have such a good wife in Lauretta, who enjoyed helping chore. Glen and Lauretta enjoyed 69 years together. Family was very important to Glen, and he loved them all deeply. He always put caring for his family ahead of everything else. Glen served his community on the Adair County Pork Board for 6-7 years, and as a Fontanelle UMC church trustee for many, many years. Virginia Dickerson was Glen's special friend and companion the last few years of his life. Lauretta and Virginia were cousins, neighbors, and friends. As long as Glen and Virginia were able, they enjoyed dancing and made lots of new friends. Glen and Lauretta always supported the church by going to many church events and suppers over the years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lauretta (2010), father Marinous Frank (1983), mother Pauline Frank (1995), brother Dean Frank (1984) and sister Evelyn Frank Reis (1992).
He is survived by the two sons, Gary (Linda) Frank of Huntley, MT and Roger (Beth) Frank of Fontanelle; daughter, Sherilyn (George) Crawford of Springfield, NE; grandchildren, Laurie (Tom) Mullen, Jason (Stacey) Frank, Shelly (Clay) Dickinson, Cindy (Bruce) Cornwell, Christy (Allen) Anderson, Connie Frank and Lynn (Kyle) Hansen; great grandchildren, Skyler, Kitrie, Trinity and Broc Frank, Bailey Shiller, Jenna (Jake) Clark, Britney (Logan) Mitchell, Brooklyn (Kohlton) Pike, Kasen, Hadley and Mala Hansen; step great grandchildren, Sam and Yates Dickinson, Cassandra and Ethan Anderson; other relatives and friends.
