Gustavo Nunez of Alliance was called home January 29th, 2025 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska surrounded by family.
Gustavo "Gus" Nunez Alcaraz (80) was born on December 3rd, 1944 in Atotonilco El Alto, Jalisco, Mexico to Ofelia Flores Alcaraz and Pedro Nunez Vazquez. Gus grew up in Mexico until moving to California in 1959. Gus attended public school in Dinuba California and high school in Sanger, California. Gus moved to Oakland, California to work for Ford Motor Company and various labor jobs. Gus enjoyed traveling to and from Mexico, during his travels he met and married Guillermina Sotelo in 1965, from that union they had two children. Gus and the family lived in San Jose, California where he worked delivering furniture. Gus was always a traveling man with a driven mindset. In 1975 he moved to South Dakota for new opportunities. During his time in the Midwest he met his lifelong "Boss" Carol Wabasha in 1977 in Sioux City, Iowa, from that union they had four children, including five bonus children. Gus and Carol spent decades together raising their children and grandchildren. While in Iowa, Gus worked in the meat packing house, started two businesses, The Pizza Oven and Jalisco Bar. Gus returned to school and obtained his GED and CDL from Western Iowa Tech Community College. Gus worked for various trucking companies until he started his third business, Gus Trucking Owner Operator. After many years of hard work, Gus finally retired in December 2009!
Gus lived a fulfilling life! He traveled all throughout the United States, he knew every road and route! He was a literal human GPS! He also loved to cook! Every New Year's Eve he'd spend hours making menudo for the entire family, it was a family tradition. Gus enjoyed listening to music, Johnny Cash, BB King, Classical Mexican and Ranchera Music to name a few. More recently Gus enjoyed sitting in the sun, sipping his vanilla latte with oat milk and eating breakfast!
Gus is survived by his children, Elva Nunez Montoya, Renato Nunez, Damian Bearshield, Daniel Bearshield, Anna Lisa Bearshield, Amanda Bearshield, Leon Bearshield, Camilla Nunez, Natalie Nunez, Carla Nunez and Pedro Nunez, his siblings, Sergio Nunez, Lilly(Able) Gutierrez and Alicia(Francisco) Espinoza, his son in laws, Jim Crum, Ramon Zuniga and Chuey Munoz, his grandchildren, Francisco T. Resendiz, David M. Perez, Manuel Munoz, Gustavo Munoz, James Crum, Lucas Crum, Nikolas Zuniga, Ofelia Zuniga, Corrina Zuniga, Olivia Zuniga, Kory Nunez, Carter Nunez, Maxine Nunez, Misun Nunez, Autumn Nunez, Kody Nunez and more, including many great grandchildren!
Gus was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother, nephew Chester Alcaraz, grandchildren Angel and Alex Alcaraz, and Luz Gutierrez.
Dad will be missed by all those who loved and cared for him.
A one night wake service to be held at the home of his daughter Natalie, 6380 Otoe Road on Saturday January 8th, visitation beginning at 5 p.m. with a Catholic prayer service at 7 p.m. Cremation will follow the service and he will be laid to rest in his native Mexico.
