Holger Fred Petersen
April 19, 1926 - September 11, 2023
CEDAR FALLS – Holger Fred Petersen, 97, died on Monday, September 11, 2023, at the Western Home Communities.
He was born on April 19, 1926, in Cedar Falls, the son of James and Augusta (Madsen) Petersen. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1944. He served in the Army during World War II. When he returned, he worked for his father's business, James F. Petersen Seed Farm. He then was employed as a plant foreman with Kruger Seed. On July 6, 1952, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Lowe in Cedar Rapids.
Holger is survived by his children, Steve (Susan) Petersen of Hudson, William (Dee) Petersen of Round Rock, TX, Christine (Bradd) Draheim of Brooklyn, WI, and Susan (Alan) Ruschill of Burlington; five grandchildren; five step grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a great-granddaughter due in 2024; and six step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two grandsons; three sisters, Roberta Ove, Clara Lueken, and Evelyn Sheard; and infant brother, Carl.
Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, September 25, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls with visitation 90 minutes prior to the service. Inurnment at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
