Branchville – Horace Osmore Edwards, 95, was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus, peacefully at his home, on March 20, 2024 in Branchville, Virginia. He is predeceased by his wife of seventy-three years, Jessie Edwards and his son-in-law, Eddie Partridge. He is survived by his beloved children Nancy E. Partridge and Kenny O. Edwards (Koren). He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Jessica Johnson (Jeremy), Tavia Cavallaro (Angelo), Emily Brown (William), Meredith Holt (Will), and Mark Partridge. He was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren, Madi and Adin Brown; Banks, Sailor, and Wells Johnson; Angelina and Sam Cavallaro; and Ellie and Asher Holt. Horace is also survived by a sister, Dorothy E. Lassiter. His family was his greatest treasure, and he was joyfully known as "Pop" or "Hoss" by all who knew him.
Horace Edwards was born in Little Texas, Virginia to Floyd and Lillie Belle Edwards. He was the tenth of eleven children, and his birth marked the beginning of a full life filled with family, farming, and unconditional love.
Horace was in the 1947 graduating class of Drewryville High School. After graduation, he began his prosperous life-long career as a farmer. Two years later, in 1949, he married the love of his life and their amazing journey together began.
He was an active member in his community serving as the Mayor of Branchville, a member of the Branchville Town Council, and a charter member of the Branchville Ruritan Club. Mr. Edwards was very active in the United Methodist Church community and served as a member of the Board of Trustees and the Finance Committee. Although, his passion was leading the congregation with his unmistakable, deep, southern voice while his beloved wife played the piano.
In addition to his devotion to Christ and the community, he was an avid baseball player, outdoorsman, and expert gardener. He truly loved all things sports and enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren compete in their many athletic events. As a founding member of Little Texas Hunt Club, he looked forward to that Saturday in November every year and was known for his incredible hunting ability. If he wasn't in the woods, he was casting a line or planting his garden large enough to feed the entire community.
A memorial service will be held at Boykins United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the Clarksbury Card Ministry, 994 Willis Hare Road, Pendelton, NC 27862, or the Little Texas Hunt Club, PO Box 112, Branchville, VA 23828 in his honor.
The Edwards family would like to extend its sincere gratitude for all of the loving support received by family, friends, and caretakers, including Paulette Barham, Stefanie Bunn, Shanna Long, Eileen Everett, Amber Hammond, Patricia Peterson, and ShaTonya Tyler.
