On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, James W. McAfee, 79, of Glen Rock, PA, passed away at UPMC Hanover Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was the devoted husband to Dorothy L. (Duff) McAfee. They were just three weeks shy of celebrating their 60th year anniversary.
Jim was born on March 23, 1944 in Baltimore, MD to James R. and Eileen A. (Hoffman) McAfee. After graduating high school, he graduated Fire School and joined the Baltimore City Fire Department, riding on Truck #16, until his retirement. He was a member of the Baltimore City Firefighters Union and enjoyed collecting Fire memorabilia; watching the Ravens and the Orioles; but, most of all, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as "D-Dad".
Jim is survived by his wife, Dorothy; five children, James P. McAfee, Dawn Muir, Kathleen Hilker and husband, John, Lillian Bristow and husband, Colin, and Kristen Wolfe; and nine grandchildren, Austin, Mitch, Jacob, Sean-Erik, Sam, Spencer, Will, Olivia, and Chase. He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant daughter, Sharon Eileen McAfee.
Public viewing will be held on Monday, October 23, 2023 from 10:00am until a funeral service begins at 11:00am at Geiple-Predicce Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock. Interment will follow in Bixler United Methodist Cemetery, 3372 Bixler Church Rd., Manchester, MD. Rev. William Mummert will officiate. Online condolences may be made at www.geiple.com.
