Obituary of James Scott
James "Jim" Scott, age 72, passed away on February 26, 2022 with his loving wife by his side. Jim was born on April 2, 1949 to Rollo and DeLores (Barber) Scott in Mpls, MN. In his youth, he spent his summers helping his "Granny" with her Blue Water Beach resort on Lake Roosevelt in the Emily/Outing area. He graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1967. He married Cheryl Kassulker in 1970 and together they had two children Anna and Cheri.
They went on to build a cabin on Levitt lake in Outing in the late 1970's at which the family spent nearly every weekend. Through the 70's and 80's, he worked for TRW and American Hardware Mutual Ins.. Jim and Cheryl eventually bought the Hartwood Motel in Thief River Falls, MN in 1987 and were proud innkeepers for over 20 years. After they sold the motel, they moved to Emily for a short time, then purchased their "little home in the woods" in Outing. During their last few years, they resided in Crosslake, MN at Golden Horizons Assisted Living. Jim loved everything about the outdoors, anything from hunting and fishing to hiking with his beloved labs Bert and Belle or enjoying the mystery of the night sky. He knew every tree, plant and critter and will be deeply missed by those that knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl, daughters Anna (Don) Moss of Dayton, MN, and Cheri (Ryan) Odenbach of Watford City, ND. Grandchildren Dan (Alesha) Hollman of Fargo, ND, and Lydia, Lane, Grace, James, and Amelia Odenbach of Watford City, North Dakota. Great grandchildren Jonathan, William, and Audrie Hollman of Fargo, ND. Siblings Bruce (Jean) Scott of Champlin, MN, and Susan (Scott) Bryce of Mound, MN. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, beloved grandmother "Granny", and his labs Bert and Belle.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm on March 12th at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, Brooklyn Park Chapel.
