Jean Lium

Jean Marie Lium, age 92, of Bricelyn, died Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City, IA. A Funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Frost, with Rev. Arne Halbakken officiating. Visitation will be one prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home of Bricelyn is assisting the family. Jean Marie was born April 26, 1926 in Swea City,IA, the daughter of John and Effie (Anderson) Erickson. Jean graduated from Swea City High School in 1943 and attended Iowa State Teachers (now UNI) at Cedar Falls, IA. Following this, she taught elementary grades and music in Swea City and several nearby towns. Jean married John "Leslie" Anderson May 23, 1947 and together they had one daughter. Leslie passed away in 1957. Jean was united in marriage to Arden Lium December 26, 1959 at First Baptist Church in Swea City, IA and moved to Bricelyn. They had one son, Gary. Jean taught elementary school in Frost for 2 years then worked as a clerk at the Bricelyn post office for 25 years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and was active in WELCA and choir, often serving as pianist, organist, and soloist. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary since 1947. She assisted with the Bricelyn trap shoot for many years. Her hobbies included music, gardening, camping, crafts, puzzles, antiques and preserving family history. She especially enjoyed family gatherings and the company of her cat, Charlie. Jean is survived by her daughter Susan (Dale) Helgeland; son Gary Lium; grandchildren: Amy (Brian) Fread, Kelly Helgeland (Emilio Rodriguez), Adam (Kendra) Helgeland, Nicole and Derek Lium; great-grandchildren: Rowan Fread, Ashlyn Fread, Colin Peterson, Logan Peterson, Xander Rodriguez, Lucus Helgeland, Lane Helgeland and Lyla Helgeland; sisters-in-law: Marguerite Erickson and Betty Lium; along with many nieces and nephews. Jean is preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; brother Perry (in infancy); brothers and sisters-in-law: John and Charlotte Erickson, Marlin Lium, Donald and Beverly Lium and Arlet and Harold Christensen.
