Joanne Brant Greer, 81, a lifelong resident of the Iowa City and Tiffin areas, died Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 20, 2012, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin with the Reverend Beverly Marshall-Goodell officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery near Tiffin. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Thursday at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Joanne's memory. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Joanne Madden was born May 28, 1930, in Iowa City, IA the daughter of John and Lillie Mae (Curry) Madden. She graduated from the Tiffin High School, where she to this day was proud of being on the girls basketball team. On November 3, 1950, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Carl Brant, and to this union four children were born. The couple farmed and raised their family in the Tiffin area. As her need to be at home lessened, she worked outside the home at a number of businesses in the area, including one of her favorites and favorites of her family, "The Purple Cow" on the Coralville strip. She also worked at Younkers, TG&Y, the University Hospitals just to name a few, she loved the public, and the public loved her! After Ken's death in March of 1995, she married Reese Greer on May 8, 2003. These two enjoyed much together, their families, their many friends, and as best friends to share their lives together with. Reese died in December of 2009. Her family includes her children, Dianna Brack of Tiffin; Sandy Tomas (Allen) of Oxford, and Annette Mossman (Steven) of Van Meter, IA; daughter-in-law, Dawn Brant of Tiffin; 7 grandchildren, Tony Brack (Kristin), Nicholas Tomas (Sue Busta) Jennifer Bernacki (Dustin), Jesse Brant, Kara Brant, Amy Brant, and Tanner Mossman; 1 great-granddaughter, Hailey Bernacki; Reese's children, Lisa Tomash (David) of Iowa City and Dana Greer (Maureen) of Iowa City; Reese's 9 grandchildren; Joanne's sisters, Dorothy Verry of Coralville; Maxine Tomash of Unionville, IA; Virginia Smith of Unionville, IA; Ruth Carmona of Wichita Falls, TX, and Margaret Swenka of Lewistown, MO. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Kenneth and Reese; son, Larry Brant, son-in-law, Daniel Brack; and seven siblings. Joanne's family would like to thank the University of Iowa Hospitals Departments of Palliative Care and Neurology for all of their care and compassion over the last several weeks.
