Joe Lockler Obituary

Published by San Jacinto Funeral Home & Cremation Services & Cemetery on Dec. 22, 2013.
Joe Billy Lockler, Sr Born: 30 October 1922 in Slocum, Texas Passed: 22 December 2013 in Jacinto City, Texas Joe is survived by his wife of 69 years, Billie Joe; Sons Joe, Jr and Phillip; Daughter Jana; Grandchildren Shawn Esparza, Terri Lockler, Stacy Lockler, Payton Taylor and Brooke Cooey; and Greatgrandchild Emily Esparza. Joe grew up in east Texas and graduated from Slocum High School. He met and married Billie Joe when their two families briefly moved to Houston, Texas. Following in the footsteps of his father, Joe became a skilled carpenter that would shape his life. As World War II continued, Joe entered the Army Air Corps. He served his country proudly including serving as a Military Police Officer and completed service with a Honorable Discharge. As a husband and father, Joe passed on his love of hunting and fishing to his children and their families. The hunting trips to west Texas, east Texas and the occassional trips to Colorado and Alaska were the norm. His love of fishing also resulted in several days on the water and lakes where he was known for more "catching" than fishing. Following his time in the service, he returned to carpentry forming a cabinetry/remodeling company with his brother John. Besides the several homes, businesses and remodeling efforts, their accomplishments included having five of their projects being mentioned in national publications, two of which being included in Better Homes and Gardens. Joe was also active in the community. He was a Scout Master and worked with the community pantry program providing food to several deserving organizations and families. Following his retirement from the day-to-day carpentry business, he became fully engaged with Senior Citizen groups in Jacinto City and Galena Park. He routinely helped organize trips, social events and provided several unique gifts from his backyard carpentry shop. Joe will be truly missed by all those that met him. He was known for his honesty, love of family and willingness to help others!
