Our amazing father, grandfather, and great grandfather John F Gallegos passed away peacefully  Oct 6th 2023 with his loving family by his side.  Although we are feeling broken hearted by his passing, we are grateful that he is free from pain and suffering.

Pops was born Jan 11 1942 in Los Brazos, New Mexico.  He was the oldest of 11 children born to Joe B and Bertha Gallegos.  He was raised in Ogden until he met  his wife  Linda A. Walton.  They were married on February 4th 1971.  They moved to Layton where they  raised their three children, Brandy Raquel Gallegos (Luke), Damon John Gallegos, and Mason Jon Gallegos.

John joined the service in 1959, at the age of 17 years old.  He was stationed in Korea for a time.  He worked as an Army Reserve Nurse Recruiter, retiring in 1997.  Always wanting to keep busy he started working at Weber Basin Job Corp where he was known as “Mr. G”, retiring in 2007. Overall he served 30 plus years in civil service.

Dad was a caring and loving father who was always encouraging his children and grandchildren to do their best.  The king of one liners like, “Make it a great day”, “ They got the problem, you don’t”, and “ It is what it is” were some of his favorites.  We will miss all of his off colored jokes, and hilarious stories.  Peca was an excellent cook and loved showing you the ropes in the kitchen.  He also loved the outdoors, and spending time in the orchard.

He is survived by his wife, daughter, and son.  As well as five  grandchildren Peyton, Karli, Cash, Karston, Preston, and one great grandchild, Swayde “Tweedy”.  Five siblings, Josie Whitaker (Dallas), Toni Almanza, Mark Gallegos (Ann), Matthew Gallegos, and Ranae. Janet and Michael Wiser became part of the family later in dads life.

He was preceded in death by his son Damon John Gallegos, his mom and dad Joe B and Bertha, sisters Stella Martinez, and Frannie Gallegos.  Brothers, Joe B jr., Dan, and Eddie, as well as his cousin Fred Archuleta.  He was also reunited with his niece and nephew Stephanie and Michael.

The family would like to thank the Home Helpers, and the hospice care team and his nurse Robin.

In lieu of flowers, cook a good meal, drink some spirits, and enjoy the company of your loved ones.
