John David Klassen of St. Jacobs, formerly of Simcoe and Port Rowan, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at his residence in his 88 year.
He was born in Winnipeg on September 11, 1935, and grew up in Port Rowan. He was a high school math teacher for 32 years and spent many of those years at Valley Heights Secondary School in Langton. He also farmed for many years before retiring to various other endeavours. His faith was always an important part of his life and he contributed much to his church and other Christian ministries.
He was the beloved husband of Alita (Neufeld) Klassen whom he married December 26, 1960, and the dear father of Delores (Greg) Wiens of Leamington, Christine (Rick) DeVrye of Waterloo, David (Diane) Klassen of Mississauga, and Tim (Silvia) Klassen of Ottawa. He will be sadly missed by his 13 grandchildren Bethany (David) Bondy, Rebecca (David) Gillies, Carolyn Wiens, Brady DeVrye, Aric (Christian) DeVrye, Duke (Megan Meyer) DeVrye, Joel Klassen, Kyle (Chelsea) Klassen, Jesse Klassen, Noelle Klassen, Eden (Danny) Wall, Josiah Klassen, and Jewel Klassen. 12 Great grandchildren Makayla, Samuel Bondy; Payton, Rowan, Soren, Devlin Gillies; Jaiden, Jakub, Joshua, Karalei Devrye; Max, Sunny Devrye. He is also survived by his sister Martha (Dick) Morgan of Simcoe, brother Tom (Lydia) Klassen of Port Rowan, sister-in-law Sadie Klassen of Kitchener, and brother-in-law Abe Toews of Simcoe.
John was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Helena (Unger) Klassen, 7 brothers, and 3 sisters.
Friends and relatives are invited to share their memories of John with his family on Wednesday, July 12, from 7:00-9:00 pm at Erb and Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo. A private funeral for family and extended family will be held Thursday morning. Following the funeral, friends and relatives are welcome to attend the interment at Fairview Cemetery, Port Rowan on Thursday July 13, at 3:00 pm.
