John "Britt" Ward Obituary
On Thursday, May 2, 2024 John Britt Ward (Britt), 47, of
Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully at home. Early that morning, the fog lifted off of the marsh waters in the Point Washington area that was his home since 2008 and the red sunrise over Peach Creek ushered him to heaven. Britt was born on August 7, 1976, to John and Rebecca (Cain) Ward.
An athlete at heart, Britt played baseball at Jefferson Davis Community College and studied at Auburn University. He went on to have a successful career as a sales executive, focusing primarily in road building industries. He was an avid reader and intensely studied leaders and leadership principles.
Britt was the quintessential Southern storyteller that loved to laugh. He had the ability to make the most menial tasks into a game of competition just for fun. He loved the outdoors and once Multiple System Atrophy deprived him of the ease to be outside he took to bird watching on the marsh where he lived. He loved to hunt, most especially turkey hunting, as he said that was a chance to see God's face, be a part of the day waking and the earth warming up. His favorite color was brown, the color of the Alabama soil from where he came.
Britt was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sidney and Elizabeth Ward, and grandparents, Leo and Mable Cain; and his father-in-law, Ellis Alford. He is also preceded in death by his uncle and aunt Joe and Marylou Ward.
Britt is survived by his devoted wife, Jackie, and children, Ellis, Carter and Rigby Ward. He is also survived by his loving parents, John and Rebecca (Cain) Ward; sister, Auburn (Jeff) Carrier; niece, Faith Carrier; nephew, Darren Carrier; aunt, Kathie Morris; aunt, Sue (Donald) Janes, aunt, Rickie (James) Aaron and aunt, Gail (Harold) Truitt; along with numerous cousins. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Helen Alford and sister-in-law, Dina (John Mark) Carlisle. Never having met a stranger, he considered numerous friends as close as family. His canine companions were dear to him. Dan and Bob have stayed behind with Jackie, but Max, Sassy, Duke, Cash and Flip are on a long walk in the woods with him now.
With all the encouragement and support from all those that loved him, Britt succeeded in this wonderful life. Even as his body declined and failed him, he continued to model perseverance and steadfastness to those around him and will leave his mark on leadership to us all. He "out meaned" MSA as long as his earthly body allowed. Serving his purpose here on Earth, our Lord has called him home to rest in heaven and his body to be restored.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. in Grayton Beach at The Gardens of Monet Monet, located at 100 East Highway 30A,
Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Defeat Multiple System Atrophy Alliance (https://defeatmsa.org) to help understand and defeat the disease that took so much from Britt.
