Josefina Garcia Obituary

Published by Forest Lawn - Hollywood Hills on Sep. 4, 2018.
Josefina Sanchez Garcia was born in the cool month of December 27th 1922 in San Carlos city, Pangasinan, a province in the Philippines. She's the fourth child of six of Patricio and Inocencia Sanchez. As a child she was very active in sports where she participated into many leagues and won multiple trophies. Because she grew up with all sisters, she feels that she had to be the boy who wanted to protect her sisters. Although a little tomboyish, she grew up very pretty with a fair complected flawless skin that she was reigned as Queen of the town in San Carlos in the 1940s. She married Ricardo Garcia in 1941 and had seven children. Being married and raising a family, didn't stop her from continuing school and further studies. With the help of some relatives in caring for the children, she was able to manage finishing a bachelors degree in Education at the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines. She taught the English subject in all the major college and universities in the almost all the university belt in the Philippines. She was teaching while finishing her Masters degree, onwards to attaining her doctorate degree. She received recognition and awards in her field. She was the most decorated professor at the height of her career. She taught the English subject at Torres High school and later on continued teaching the same subject at San Sebastián College in the Philippines where she took the office of being the Dean of Student Affairs. She migrated in the US in 1981, lived in Los Angeles, CA for 37 years continued her profession as a teacher in St. Genevieve Catholic school in Panorama city CA, where she produced a lot of high caliber students with "A" grades. She retired from teaching in 1997 at age 75, to take full time care for her ailing husband, Ricardo, but unfortunately she became a widow on the same year. While retired she busied herself volunteering in school activities at St. Genevieve until she started acquiring Diabetes and osteoporosis that she decided to stop and stay home. As a mother she stressed the importance of education to her children, so she constantly reminded them that education is a weapon that once you have it, no one can steal it away from you. She will certainly be missed by a lot of her students who some of them maybe a CEO now in some companies, by her colleagues if some of them are still around, by her friends and relatives and most of all her children who accompanied her in fighting all the way for her health, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Nothing can ever replace the warmth of your tender embrace. Mamang, I miss the days when you were here to listen to my stories of achievements and you would kiss me to signify your pride. And I would always say, "I just got my being an achiever from you." I miss you, Mamang. I love you so much.
