I never encountered a more honest businessman. When Joe ran "The Golden Toller Airguns" he gave me what I thought was an outstanding deal for an Air Arms TX200. The trans action was conducted over the phone. He didn't have a website. I was reluctant of online purchases and was happy to speak to a human. I recall the gun cost around $400. About 10 minute after completing the purchase Joe called me back stating he made a mistake. That was the wholesale price and would I mind paying his street price of $440. I laughed and said "your markup is only 10%. Your secret's out. We live in a for profit society. You're entitled to make a profit."
That gun was stolen long ago, but the thieves couldn't steal my memory of a very honest man. RIP Joe.

Though this is long overdue, I just wanted to add my thoughts for his family. I served with (then Msgt) Joe Goulart with the 12th RITS (an air intelligence squadron) in Vietnam in the early 70's. During that tour, he inspired me more than anyone can even imagine. Look forward to serving with you again in a better place!

Golden Joe, where do I start. I entered the airgun community 2 years ago. "Golden Joe" always pops up whenever there is a question on what a good business model is. Your love is alive here on earth. I'm sure between you, Jack Womer, Don Nygord and many other marksmen guarding Heaven's pearly gates that the Devil's minions will never infiltrate the kingdom! Ric Douglas, USMC Sniper, Retired

Joe was the best person I ever did business with. He was a kind and considerate person who made me feel more like a friend rather than a customer. He was the model of the ideal business man and human being alike. May he rest in peace.

What a thoroughgoing gentleman.
I only knew Joe as a soft voice on the telephone whose generosity with his time and good will was always far out of proportion to whatever I might be buying.
His death darkens my morning. Condolences to those who knew him in person; my sadness cannot begin to touch your loss.

I just found out about Joe and my condolences go out to his family. I never met him in person, but he certainly didn't mind spending whatever time was needed to make you comfortable about a purchase. At times it was easy to forget that you were making a purchase at all at the end of a long conversation. Joe will certainly be missed

Having only dealt with Joe once, and doing so on the advice of so many who enjoyed with him on a regular basis, there is no doubt that he was interested in pleasing his customers and friends and getting things right the first time. Only after wanting to deal with him again did I learn of his passing. I'm consumed with sadness to learn that he is gone and extend my sincerest condolences to his family. May God Bless you Joe. You were a good man. Rest in peace.

I'm deeply saddened to hear of Joe's passing. The 8 or 10 times we spoke on the phone, i always came away feeling better somehow, as if we had been close friends for many years...My thoughts and prayers go to his family now, and in some small way aid their recovery from such a loss. God Bless You All

I got to meet Joe on two differnt occasions in his shop in the last year . I would bring a couple of airguns that i had customized and he would grin to see what i had brought to show him .On one occasion he liked one of them so much that he had to have it . I felt great that a man like Joe wanted it so i parted company with it knowing it would be in good hands . Im so sorry i didnt get to meet him many years ago as i knew i had found a good friend in the airgun world .I am going to miss him terribly and will always keep the Golden Toller Airgun site in my Favorites GOD BLES YOU JOE .And see you in Airgun Heaven Dick Pollard

There aren't too many people in any business that impressed you like Joe. I always enjoyed transactions with Joe, but the best part was chatting wih him on the phone about almost anything (including airguns, of course). A very rare, special person with great humour and integrity. Thank you Joe.

Members of the Pleasant River Conservation Association would like to express their condolences to the Goulart family.
Joe was a true sportsman who was dedicated to the 2nd Amendment as well as many outdoor interests. For many years Joe operated the Golden Toller gunshop in Cherryfield and conducted an air rifle business through the world wide web. He was a great voice for the sportsman and gunowner and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

May I echo the sentiments of the many who knew Joe and had dealings with him: he was a wonderful, helpful man who loved life and contributed much to it. Through all, he maintained an inspiring positive attitude and he believed God was watching over him. I am comforted by the thought that God was with Joe throughout and Joe is now with Him.

Joe, it's sad to see your website shut down. I cannot bring myself to delete if from my 'Favorites'. You worked so many long hours to provide such excellent service with integrity to all of us. I hope you had fun while doing it. In addition to being missed intensely by your family, you will also be missed by the people you got to know through your airgun dealership; and I'm sure, missed by everyone in all of your other lifetime endeavors.

To Joe's family I would like to convey my deepest condolences for this temporary parting. Also the thought that he is in a far better place than we dream of.
His pellets will always fly true, his orders will never be delayed, wrongly delivered or mistreated, his days will be sunny and clear with just enough wind to make shooting interesting.
We will miss him; from our selfish perspective, it will cause us grief, but that is only temporary.
His memory and his way of making us all better people will prevail.
Hey Joe!, keep a place at the bench for me.
Un abrazo from México.

My deepest condolences to Joe's family. I will miss his advice and great service. I bought a Crosman 2200W from him last year. I have never received any mail-order goods packed as well as Joe sent mine. And it was interesting to read the Maine newspaper he used for padding. He was a gentleman, and as one military man to another, I salute him. God bless Joe and his family, Dick

I first got to know Joe about five years ago. It was always a pleasure dealing with him and I would recommend him to friends who would invariably thank me afterwards for the referral. I became quite friendly with Joe and we had many quality conversations and fun emails. We very much enjoyed sharing a good joke, many of them about the ironies of life. Joe made a lot of people happy, he was honest and hardworking and a real straight shooter in all aspects of the phrase. He enjoyed life and was a power of example with how he dealt with his poor health. I will very much miss him and our sharing and his words of support, he was a good friend. May God bless him and his family and find him a happier place.

God loaned you to us for what we think is too short a time, but you used that time well. People are speaking and writing about how you touched them either by word or example.
While we never met in person, we have walked the same ground at different times at a little air base in Thailand. We knelt and prayed in the same Chapel asking God to watch over us as we flew out on a mission and later thanking Him for bringing us home.
Joe, I thank Him now for crossing our lives again, letting me know you for just a little while.
