FRANCIS JAMES GOULART

1934 - 2025

GOULART, Francis James Of Mashpee, MA, passed away on October 4, 2025, at the age of 90. Born in Boston, Fran was raised in Brookline. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served honorably for four years aboard the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea with the U.S. Sixth Fleet. After his service, he married the love of his life, Nancy Jo Dunlap, and began his career with the Brookline Fire Department. After a decade in Boston, the family moved to Natick, where Fran's deep love of history found expression with the Sudbury Ancient Fyfe and Drum Companie and Militia. He and his family took part in many Bicentennial reenactments, bringing history to life, not only for others, but for himself. After retiring from the fire department, Fran and Nancy moved to Cape Cod. Avid travelers, they shared adventures with family and friends, including camping in New Hampshire's White Mountains, river boating down the Danube, attending the Lake Placid Olympics, visiting Jerusalem in the Holy Land, and commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Treaty of Paris at Versailles. Fran is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Goulart; his children, Robert Goulart and his wife, Donna, Suzanne Goulart, Christine Sheridan and her husband, Joe and William Goulart and his wife, Pauline; his grandchildren, James and his wife, Jenna, Drew, John, Joseph, Julia, Samuel and Zachary; his great-grandson, Lennox; and their beloved dog, Josie. Fran was predeceased by his mother, Mary (Lynch) Goulart; his father, Joaquin Goulart; and his sister, Marion Goulart. Fran will be remembered as a wonderful and kind man and for his dedication to service, enduring curiosity, and deep devotion to family. A Visitation will be held at 10AM, Wednesday, October 15, 2025, with a Funeral Mass at 11AM, at Christ the King Church, in Mashpee. Burial will follow at Great Neck Woods Cemetery.
