It is with profound sadness that we announce the untimely passing of Jovan Adrien Cortez Ortiz, a spirited young man who left us on September 2, 2023. Born on December 22, 2004, Jovan's 18-year journey in this world was marked by an unwavering fearlessness and a radiant smile that could lighten even the darkest days. Known for his abounding kindness and immense heart, Jovan was a beacon of joy and love to all who had the pleasure of meeting him. He lived his life on the principle of cherishing every moment, a philosophy that he enthusiastically shared with others. His joyous approach to life, infectious laughter, and generous spirit are an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know him.
Jovan is preceded in death by Grandfather, Hesiquio Cortez, Aunt, Tammy Cortez, Great-grandfather, Juan Ortiz, Great-grandmother, Rebecca Ortiz, Great-grandfather, Manuel Contreras.
He is survived by his beloved family which includes Mother, Teresa Poole; Father, John Ortiz; Step-father, James Poole; Two Sisters, Dazza Cortez Ortiz, Dezirae Cortez Ortiz; Two Brothers, Luke Poole, Cameron Poole; and his Girlfriend, Ayssa Ivette Garza.
In the wake of this devastating loss, a Viewing for Jovan will be held on September 14, 2023, 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Felix H. Morales Funeral Home with a Rosary at 6:00 pm. This will be followed by a Funeral service to honor his precious memory on September 15, 2023, at 12:00 pm at the funeral home with burial following at Historic Hollywood Cemetery.
Jovan's untimely departure has left a void that cannot be filled. His vibrant life, however brief, touched many. He will be dearly missed, but his spirit will continue to live in our hearts forever. In times of sorrow, we find comfort in the precious memories he left behind, choosing to celebrate his life, the happiness he bestowed, and the lessons he imparted. Let us remember Jovan for the fearless, loving, and kind-hearted person he was.
