With a heart full of cherished memories, we announce the peaceful passing of Juan G. Ranjel Jr., affectionately known as John, on March 23, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on August 30, 1933, in Lockhart, Texas, John's journey came to a gentle close in San Marcos, Texas, surrounded by the love of his family.
John's life was a testament to the strength and resilience of a generation that valued hard work and dedication. His service in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956 was a period of his life that instilled in him a sense of pride and honor. After his military service, he embarked on a rewarding 35-year career as a lineman with the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) and Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC), where his commitment to his work was evident to all who knew him. A devout and faithful member of El Buen Pastor Methodist Church, John's unwavering faith and love for his community were an inspiration to many.
John was a craftsman at heart, with a passion for handyman work and the patience and skill for intricate crossword puzzles. His family fondly remembers him as the go-to guy for all their needs, affectionately dubbing him the family electrician. His gentle and wise approach to life's challenges, coupled with his loving nature, made him a cornerstone within his family and circle of friends.
Preceding him in death was his beloved wife of 63 years, Alicia Ranjel, who was undoubtedly waiting with open arms. He was also preceded by his parents, Juan and Maria Aurora Ranjel; his brothers, Lorenzo, Domingo, Jose, and Manuel; and his sisters, Dominga, Paula, and Nina. His legacy was also marked by the loss of his sons Jesse, Henry, Arthur, and George Guerra, as well as his grandson Eric Guerra.
John's memory is honored and kept alive by his children Rudy, Edward, Fred (Lolly) Guerra, Nora Cruz, Sally Guerra, and daughter-in-law Dora Guerra. His spirit continues to resonate through the lives of his 25 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren, each reflecting a facet of his character and love.
As we say farewell to a man of such character and warmth, we celebrate the life he lived and the impact he had on everyone he touched. John's story is not one of an end, but a continuing legacy through the generations that follow. His guidance and wisdom remain a guiding light for his family, and his memory will be cherished in the stories they share.
