Mr. Lanny Darrell Durden, age 72, beloved husband of Deborah Toler Durden, formerly of Johnson County, passed away in Soperton, Georgia on Tuesday afternoon, November 14, 2023.
Born in Laurens County, he was the youngest of nine children born to the late George Leon Durden and Emma Lou Beasley Durden. He grew up in Treutlen County and was a graduate of Treutlen County High School, class of 1971. He and Deborah had lived in Johnson County for approximately forty years before returning to Soperton within the last few years. Lanny had worked as an Engine Mechanic and became sought after through his years with the Hall Brothers in Johnson County, Outlaw Motors, Wilkes Automotive and others.
Mr. Durden enjoyed fishing, sitting out doors watching nature and working with wood.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings, Wilma Durden Hall, Eloise Durden Drawdy, Barbara Durden Edge, Carolyn Durden Kennedy, Howard Durden and Danny Durden.
Mr. Durden leaves behind: his wife of forty two years. Deborah Toler Durden, their children, Lindsay Durden, Wrightsville, GA, Lance Durden (Lexie), North Augusta, SC, Lacey Durden Edge (Dustin), Soperton, GA, one precious grand daughter, Lennon Marie Durden, North Augusta, GA, two sisters, Martha Toler, Soperton, GA, Marilyn Coleman, Vidalia, GA and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 17, 2023 from the graveside in Westview Cemetery, Soperton, Georgia with Jamey Toler officiating. Should inclement weather persists, the service will be conducted in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home.
His family will receive friends on Friday, at Sammons Funeral Home, from 12:00 noon until time to depart for the cemetery, or friends and family may call at the family residence in Soperton.
