Leona Jukonski

Leona Jukonski, age 85, of Meriden passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025. She was born in Hartford, CT, daughter of the late Roscoe and Katherine McMorrow Atherton. Prior to her retirement, Leona enjoyed a rewarding career as a phlebotomist. She possessed a deep sense of adventure, traveling the world, hiking and blazing trails through the Rocky Mountains, and scuba diving in the Pacific. Leona will be remembered for her kindness and the genuine warmth she shared with everyone she met. Her thoughtful nature and radiant smile touched the lives of many. She was a devoted parishioner of Holy Angels Church in Meriden. Her love of animals was boundless. She was especially proud of her work with the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, where she raised six puppies for their program. A talented sous chef, she always loved cooking, with her daughter Christine, for her family during the holidays. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered. May the Lord watch over her and keep her close to your hearts, as she comes home. Leona is survived by her children, Michael Jukonski Jr. and Christine Jukonski both of Meriden. She was predeceased by her son James "Jim" Jukonski and her former husband Michael Jukonski Sr. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday October 24th in Holy Angels Church, 585 Main St, Meriden, at 11:00am. Interment will be private. There will be no hours for visitation. Wallingford Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
