Leonard Herman Shevy, aged 79, passed away on August 19, 2023, at his home in Pound. He was born on September 6, 1943, in Lena, WI, to August and Tressa (Heisel) Shevy. Leonard's father, August, passed away when he was only three years old, leading to his upbringing by Albert Shevy, who he lovingly considered his father.
During his youth, Leonard's life was rooted in farming. He later became a member of the US Army Reserve and eventually transitioned into a career in truck driving. His professional journey encompassed roles at Graetz Manufacturing, Patz Company, and Ferrell Gas working 60-plus hours a week. In addition to his work, Leonard engaged in a part-time passion: operating the Whisky Creek Lumber Company, and providing lumber planing services.
In 2012, Leonard entered into marriage with Arlene Shevy (Kopatz). The couple lived at their home in Pound, Wisconsin. Leonard became an active member of the Safe Haven Community Church.
Leonard's dedication to family remained steadfast. He was survived by his devoted wife, Arlene, and his two children from a previous marriage with Sandra Shevy (Whiting), whom he cherished dearly. His son, Ken (Brenda), and daughter, Cheryl (Corey), along with his grandchildren Bryan (Amanda), Hunter, Brienna, and Jaden Shevy, held a special place in his heart. Additionally, his brothers, August Jr., and Gary Shevy, remained by his side throughout his life.
Leonard is also survived by his wife Arlene's children from a previous marriage, including Cindy, Butch (Jean), and Doug (Alison), along with their children Emily and Tyler Kostreva. His open-heartedness and warmth made him a treasured member of this extended family.
Leonard was predeceased by his biological father, August Shevy Sr., his father figure Albert Shevy, and his mother, Tressa Shevy.
Among Leonard's numerous hobbies, fishing and hunting were particularly close to his heart. His culinary skills shone as he crafted his own deer sausage from scratch and expertly smoked it in his homemade smoker. His homemade smoker also saw use for smoking fish, reflecting his inventive spirit, which extended to repairing broken items with ingenious solutions.
One of Leonard's defining traits was his gift of conversation. Known for his willingness to share stories, he had a remarkable ability to connect with people through dialogue. Leonard's inherent kindness, generosity, and caring nature were evident to all who encountered him.
Leonard's social circle extended far beyond family, as he relished the company of friends and neighbors. Hosting gatherings for dinner, he created warm and inviting spaces for laughter and camaraderie. His home became a hub of connection, with friends and neighbors frequently dropping in to share stories.
Leonard's enthusiasm for garage sales was infectious, and he thoroughly enjoyed exploring treasures and in search of unique finds. His hobby for collecting items showcased his resourcefulness, as he always had the right part on hand when someone was in need.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Safe Haven Community Church - N5238 Parkway Rd, Pound, WI 54161. With a Memorial service at 4:00 pm with a meal to follow.
