Louis F. Henderson, 82 of Gaylord, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at McReynolds Hall, in the same room his wife, Jean Ann, passed away four days earlier.
Louis was born on July 16, 1941, in Jackson, Michigan, the son of Louis H. and Francis G. (Ford) Henderson. He grew up in Jackson where he graduated from high school in 1959.
In 1961, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving honorably for four years. He was proud of his service and a passionate supporter of the U.S. Air Force.
In 1969 he moved to Gaylord, where he met Jean Ann Pakulski. They were married in Gaylord on July 10, 1971.
Louis worked for Otsego County, managing Otsego Lake County Park for many years. Because his years of service and his efforts made the park what it is today, Henderson Pavilion at the park is named in his honor. For several years he also operated a small engine repair shop in downtown Gaylord.
In his spare time, he enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and working around his yard. He also enjoyed his Saturday morning coffee group at Big Boy. Louis found great enjoyment building and flying RC model airplanes. He was a member of the Alpine Leisure Pilots Society, or A.L.P.S. and the AMA model aviation association.
Louis is survived by his son, Walter (Susan Rondeau) Henderson of Eaton Rapids; brothers, Dwight (Betty) Henderson of Tennessee, and Bill Henderson of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Karen Day.
Funeral services for Louis and Jean will be held at 11:30 AM Monday, September 18, 2023, at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service where visitation will begin at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to Ralph Holewinski VFW Post #1518 Building Fund.
