Margaret (Peggy) L. Vail, 86, of Elgin, SC died at her home on Thursday, May 11, 2023. Born in Emeigh, PA, January 26, 1937, she was the youngest daughter of the late Richard Scott and Virginia Pirazzi Scott.
After graduation from Cherry Tree High School in 1954, Peggy moved to Emporium, PA, where she lived with her sisters and worked for Sylvania. In August 1958 she married Ronald Paul Vail. Peggy enjoyed a long and happy marriage with her beloved husband Ron who passed away in 2016. Together, they relocated to the Washington, DC area in the early 1960s where Peggy pursued a career with the IBM Corporation and lived comfortably in Northern Virginia. She was well respected and had numerous IBM colleagues with whom she remained close friends throughout her life. In retirement, she continued to stay vital and in touch with her very large extended family and many, many friends throughout the country. She and her husband returned to Pennsylvania for several years in retirement where they enjoyed many friendships and family, finally settling in Elgin, SC in 2013 where she was surrounded and cared for by her family.
Mrs. Vail is survived by her sister, Mary Scott Kernan (Frank) of Elgin, SC; her brother-in-law, John S. Vail (Judy) of Norcross, GA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her beloved husband, Ronald Paul Vail; six brothers, John Scott, Richard Scott, Louis Scott, Franklin Scott, William Scott, Samuel Scott and one sister, Anna Mae Scott Zito.
The graveside service for Mrs. Vail will be held at 12 o'clock, Wednesday, May 17th, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
