A WOMAN OF GOD

Marva June Stith

Marva June Stith, affectionately known as Flussy, was born on April 20, 1945, to the loving parents Thornton and Ernestine York. A proud graduate of Pawhuska High School, Marva embarked on a new chapter in her life when she moved to Denver, Colorado. It was there that she met Raymond Stith from Rawlins, Wyoming, and they exchanged vows on June 19, 1955, at Bethsaida Baptist Church in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Their 57-year marriage was a testament to their enduring love, Raymond preceded her in death on December 23, 2022.

While Marva and Raymond did not have biological children, they embraced their family with open arms, adopting their nieces, nephews, and cousins, becoming cherished godparents to many. Marva’s nurturing spirit extended beyond her family, as she dedicated over a decade of her life to being a childcare provider, where her warmth and compassion touched the lives of many children.

In the 1990s, Marva made signi cant contributions to her community by working on Wellington Webb’s campaign for Mayor, playing a vital role in the election of Denver's rst Black Mayor. Her dedication continued as she served in the office of Mayor Webb, where she was recognized for her hard work as an Operator Handling Correspondence.

Marva’s professional journey included a 25-year tenure with the Colorado Rockies, where her exceptional contribution earned her the titles of employee of the year and employee of the month ve times. Her love for the Rockies was only matched by her devotion to her family and faith.

A devoted member of Zion Baptist Church for 57 years, Marva served as a Junior Deaconess under Rev. Liggins, eventually rising to the role of Senior Deaconess. Her commitment to her church community reflected her deep faith and compassionate heart.

Aunt Flussy created countless joyful memories with her nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren. Whether shing, watching airplanes soar above, or enjoying rides in the camper with Uncle Raymond, Marva cherished every moment spent with her loved ones, leaving a lasting mark on their hearts.

As we remember Marva June “ Flussy” Stith, let us celebrate her remarkable life, her unwavering spirit, and the love she shared with all who were blessed enough to know her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered in our hearts.

Marva is preceded in death by her husband Raymond Stith and sister, Genina Rogers.

Marva is survived by her beloved sisters, Thressa York and Nancy Rogers;

her brothers, Thornton York Jr. and his wife Dora, Reginald York and his wife Alfredia, and Sherman York and his wife Susa;, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren who will forever hold her memory dear.
