She was born in Columbia, North Carolina, to the late Luther and Belle Stillman Davenport on February 11, 1932. She lived in Tyrrell County her entire life, graduating from Columbia High School in 1950. She married Wilbert Alvin Simmons on December 3, 1950; and they were married 57 years before his death in 2008. She also was a lifelong member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister Dorothy Mae Davenport Sanderlin and her brothers Palmer Davenport and Ernest "Dave" Davenport. She is survived by her children Rex Simmons (Nancy) and Karen Michelle Simmons Creef (Felton); grandchildren Andy Simmons (Mary), Emily Simmons (Ryan Cox), Haley Creef Morris (Jameson), Garrett Creef (fiancée McKenzie Sides), and great-grandchildren, Abigail and Dylan.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 29th at 11:00 AM at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Columbia, North Carolina.
