Mrs. Mattie Lucas Gay

Blairsville ~ Mrs. Mattie Lucas Gay, age 96, passed away peacefully, Monday, January, 8 2024 in Union County Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Fisher Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pulaski ~ Bleckley Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.
Mattie was born, January 25, 1927 in Twiggs County, the daughter of the late Mr. Josh Lucas and Mattie Lou Rozier Lucas and was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Gay; daughter, Linda Gay Ryan; grandson, Travis Ryan and 13 siblings. She grew up in Bleckley County, attended Cochran schools, was a member of Cochran High School's Class of 1945 and Bethany Baptist Church. Mrs. Mattie worked at the L&H Shirt Company and kept children for many years. She loved to read and spend time with children, but her greatest joy in life came from her family and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Pam Gay Porterfield (Earl) of Demorest and Ricky Gay of Hawkinsville; grandchildren, Chris Tyson (Michelle) of Tega Cay, SC, Kim Futch (Keith) of Cleveland, GA, Stephen Nash (Anna Kay) of Macon,GA, Dylan Gay of Hawkinsville, Riley Gay of Hawkinsville, and Shawn Ryan (Regina) of Dublin; sister, Evelyn Arnold of Cochran; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
