Michael James Lundby

Michael J. Lundby, 72, of East Grand Forks, passed away surrounded by his loving family, Sunday, November 19, 2023 at his home.
Michael James Lundby was born September 2, 1951, in Grand Forks to Roy and Gertrude (Dunnigan) Lundby. He grew up in Riverside Park in Grand Forks and graduated from St. James High School in 1969. Mike then attended UND and proudly played hockey for the Fighting Sioux from 1970-1973. On December 22, 1971, he married Nancy (Youngern) Blackmun and they were blessed with four children, Alison, Anne, John and Jessica. They moved to Crookston and then Owatanna before making their home in East Grand Forks. Mike taught social studies and coached hockey, football and golf. He was the founder of the Greenwave girl's hockey program and served on many boards including as President of the Minnesota Hockey Coaches Association.
On November 26, 1999, he married Barbara Griffin and blended their families together. Their marriage was blessed with 18 grandchildren whom they loved dearly. Mike and Barb became snowbirds and moved to Arizona in the winter months. Throughout the years, they met many dear friends and especially enjoyed when their family and friends visited their San Tan Valley home.
He is survived by children, Alison Ramsey of East Grand Forks and daughter Daysha of Minneapolis, Anne (Carl) Adolphson and children Jocelyn, Ella, Claire and Carter of East Grand Forks, John (Beth) Lundby and their children Greta and George of Bismarck and Jessica (David) Wilfong and children Myles and Mikah of Moorhead; step-children, Scott (Tracy) Griffin and children, Ashley, Megan and Jacob of Plymouth, MN, Sarah (Jeremy) Swanson and children Tanner, Taryn, Jillian and Jonah of Grand Forks, ND and Steven Griffin and children Kiera and Collin and their mother Kelly Griffin of Rockford, MN; siblings Sharon (Lex) Scott of Townville, SC, Linda (Tom) Suitt of Roxboro, NC, Larry Lundby of Grand Forks, Barb Sobolik of Mandan, ND, Wayne (Johna) Lundby, Patrick(Thomi) Lundby, Jerry (Laurie) Lundby, Kristi (Gerald) Ness all of Grand Forks, and Katy Gerstner of Brookings, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Barb in 2022 and parents Roy and Gertrude Lundby.
