Norman Abbott Obituary

Visit the William Slater II Funeral Service website to view the full obituary.
Born March 10, 1938, called by God to bring more joy and laughter to heaven on March 26, 2022. Beloved husband of Geraldine "Gerry" (Figlar) Abbott; son of the late Leo J. and Alberta (Goldbach) Abbott; loving father of Jeff (Linda) Abbott of Bethlehem, PA, and Keith (Suzanne) Abbott of New Smyrna, FL; brother of the late Ruthell (Bernie) Marx; dear grandfather of Derik, Rachel, Brianna Abbott, Devin and Andrew Cortese; several nieces and nephews. Mickey worked for many years in food sales for several companies as a regional sales mgr. He lived for entertaining his family, friends and everyone he met. He was a proud founding member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 32 in Carnegie, and served as an usher at St. John Capistran Church in Upper St. Clair. In his retirement he enjoyed being known as the slowest bartender in Ukranian Club history, where rumor has it, some are still waiting for a drink. Mickey was an avid golfer as well…. or…. at least he eventually learned how to drive the cart. He also had an obsessive fixation with being on time, and now that he will forever be known as "late" is no doubt driving him crazy in heaven. He was a life long Steeler fan, season ticket holder for many years and all round Pittsburgh sports fan. But above all, he was a fan of whatever sport or event his grandchildren participated in. Mickey was a man of unconditional love for his family and a man of strong faith in God. He spent his entire life dedicated to brightening the lives of those around him with a little smile, a good joke, perhaps a shot of Jameson, and endless good times. We thank God for sharing him with us for 84 years before taking him home. Friends welcome 1-8pm, FRIDAY, WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE (412-563-2800) 1650 Greentree Rd, Scott Twp 15220. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00a.m. SATURDAY, St. John Capistran Church (Resurrection Parish). Mickey was without a doubt one of the most humorous and entertaining people I ever met. I remember Pat coming home from one of the early AOH meetings and telling me about this guy he met. He described him as the funniest man he ever met. That night he had a group engaged with his Turkey stories. I also remember Gerry telling us she thought he was kidding around when he had actually had a stroke. And Mickey wanting to find an overweight doctor who smoked and drank.

Thank you Mickey for the wonderful memories and for being such a big part of our lives in those days. Rest In Peace Mickey.

Gerry, thank you for sharing Mickey with all of us. He was a kind, gentle soul and will be missed.

Gerry and family. We wish you and your family all the loving memories of having such a wonderful loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to so many people. We are sure Lexus met him at heavens gates looking for her Jumbo. He never forgot her on Halloween. Our deepest Sympathy to your family.

Mickey was such a beautiful soul. He always went out of his way to make your day a bit brighter. I will always treasure his friendship and memory of a life well lived. He had tremendous integrity, a brilliant sense of humor and deep pride of our AOH 32 Division which benefited greatly by his lifelong, selfless contributions. Mickey's Santa appearances at our annual Christmas party were legendary and his line "Santa needs a little milk" was a classic and is one of the many lines I use to this day! I was honored to "roast" him a few years ago and again marveled at how much he enjoyed it and appreciated the attention. He deserved every bit of it, because he was so very much loved by his AOH 32 brothers and will be terribly missed. My deepest condolences to his wonderful family who he deeply appreciated and adored. You were the best Mickey. Thanks for the memories. Slainte, Mick

Gerry, Keith, and Jeff, What are the odds I would be in Florida when Mickey passed? He must have wanted at least one Hibernian on vacation. So sorry we can not be there in person but are there in spirit.Your dad was a special kindred spirit to my father and I hope they are reunited in heaven and look forward to the day we will join them.Love you all, The Trants
