Patrick O'Brien Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 20, 2009.
PATRICK C. O'BRIEN, Jr. was the beloved husband of Lisa O'Brien (nee Farrelly) of Waite Hill, OH. He was the dear father of Carbery O'Brien of Portland, OR, Patrick Charles O'Brien, III. (Kathleen) of Bay Village, OH, Josephine G. Brune (William) of Georgetown, ME and Margaret O'Brien of Denver, CO. Pat was the grandfather of 4 loving grandchildren and the dear brother of Aloise O. Bates and John C. O'Brien. Pat graduated from University School in 1954 and continued his support for the school by serving as both a past president of the Tower Society and of the Alumni Association and also serving as an Honorary Trustee. He went on to graduate from Georgetown University before going into the US Army in 1958. Pat was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant in 1960 and went to work for The Warner and Swasey Company. His work took him to Michigan, New York City, San Francisco, where he met his future wife Lisa, and Kansas City, Missouri before landing him back in Cleveland in 1970 where he and his wife since 1965, Lisa, settled down for good. Pat began to develop his gourmet wine and food skills in California and decided to begin a business to make full use of those talents. Pat owned and operated the "Pat O'Brien Fine Wines and Fancy Food' store in Landerwood before retiring in 2002. He even achieved the status as a member in good standing of the French Wine Society. Pat and Lisa travelled all over the world. They visited Europe, South America, Africa and Australia. Pat loved the outdoor sports of duck hunting and fly fishing and practiced these everywhere he travelled. In keeping with these loves, he was a member of the Winous Point Shooting Club of Sandusky, OH (The oldest men's shooting club in the USA) and Ducks Unlimited. He played golf at the Kirtland Country Club, and won the McKinney Green Men's Team Tournament. He was also a member of the Moorings Club of Vero Beach, FL and the Rolling Rock Club of Ligonier, PA. Locally, Pat was a valued board member and past president of both the Cleveland Sight Center and the Cleveland Natural History Museum. Pat's contributions to the City of Cleveland included his graduation from the 1987 class of Leadership Cleveland. His leadership in his own village of Waite Hill was displayed by his twenty-seven years on the village council. The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in his name to the Cleveland Sight Center, 1909 East 101st Street, PO Box 1988, Cleveland, OH 44106-8696 or to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, 1 Wade Oval Drive University Circle Cleveland OH 44106-1767. Funeral Mass will be held in the Chapel of The Devine Word Catholic Church, 8100 Eagle Road, Kirtland, Ohio, Saturday, July 25th at 12 noon. FRIENDS MAY CALL AT THE WAITE HILL RESIDENCE FRIDAY JULY 24TH FROM 4-6:30 PM. BROWN-FORWARD SERVICE 216 752-1200
