MORTON – Rilla J. Pfotenhauer, 89, of Morton, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton.
She was born February 3, 1934, in Decatur, Ill., to Earl and Dorothy (Myers) Markwell. Rilla married Eldon Walker. He preceded her in death in 1971. She then married Gene Pfotenhauer in Decatur, on July 22, 1972. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Grant Markwell.
Surviving are her husband, Gene of Morton; children, Kelly (Jeff) Kiedaisch of Joliet, Ill., Rita (Robert) Burton of Decatur, Ill., Phillip (Vanessa) Walker of Melissa, Texas and Gary (Cath) Pfotenhauer of Glasgow, Scotland; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one brother, Patrick Markwell.
Rilla went to grade school at the Springfield Catholic Boarding School. She attended St. Theresa High School in Decatur and then attended and graduated from Lakeview High School in Decatur.
After high school, she earned an associate’s degree in Medical Transcription from Illinois Central College.
Rilla kept busy and enjoyed many activities including golf, sewing and quilting. She gave much of her time to charities helping with different causes.
Rilla enjoyed traveling, especially in her motor home. She and Gene made many memories wintering in Nettles Island, Florida.
Rilla loved her dog, Cash.
There will be a celebration of life service held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton.
