Ronald M. Abshire

1935 - 2022

Ronald (Ron) Medlin Abshire, 87, of Redlands, California, passed away on June 29th, 2022.  Ron was preceded in death by his first wife, Cecile L. Abshire, and leaves behind his second wife, Ellie O'Brien – Abshire, Daughter Lorie Prichard and her husband Watt, sons Bret and his wife Beth and Michael and wife Lisa Abshire, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will miss him dearly.  Ron was a tremendous athlete growing up in Southern California, where he attended high school in Oceanside, CA, and graduated college from SDSU in 1958.  Ron served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 20 years with multiple deployments including one in Vietnam, of which we are very proud.  After the Marine Corp, Ron was the city finance director of Ashland, KY, where he was recognized as a "Kentucky Colonel" in recognition of his outstanding service and accomplishments on behalf of others. After serving the city of Ashland, the family returned to Southern California where he joined some childhood friends to start a commercial farming company which at its height provided the country with almost 5% of the nation's strawberries.  In retirement, he enjoyed pursuing his lifelong interests of collecting stamps and coins, golf, watching sports, and traveling with his family.
