Sarah B. Armbrister, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Johnston Memorial Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was born on June 1, 1941, in Princeton WV, to the late Harry Bowes and Francis Shelton Bowes.
She graduated from Bluefield High School, received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Concord University and her Master's Degree in Education from Radford University. Sarah and her husband, Jack Armbrister moved to Abingdon in 1976, when he received a job transfer with Pittston Coal. She taught school for over 40 years in various towns in Virginia and West Virginia. Sarah was a member of Abingdon United Methodist Church, where she had been a member of the handbell choir. She enjoyed tole painting as well as other types of art. One of Sarah's most enjoyable activities was playing bridge with her "Bridge Ladies."
In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Jackson "Jack" Armbrister and one son, Steve Armbrister.
She is survived by her children, Tom Armbrister and wife, Sherry, Lisa Armbrister Best and husband Chris, Jeff Armbrister and wife Brigit, and John Armbrister; one brother James "Jimmy" Bowes, and one sister, Barbara Fox.
Sarah truly cherished and loved her ten grandchildren, Carrie, Michael, Nick, Megan, Tristan, Brandon, Brady, Hunter, Jackson and Stella.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the "Bridge Ladies" and Sarah's neighbors for the love and kindness shown to Sarah.
A memorial service honoring the life of Sarah B. Armbrister will be held at a later date.

Sarah & I were friends all through school from grade school through high school. Even though we didn´t see each other after school we always kept in touch. True friends are hard to find but i found a true friend in Sarah. God Bless your Family!!!
