Shirley Beach

Shirley Whitham Beach, 84, the beloved wife of the late William G. Beach, died Thursday, November 13, 2008 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. Born in Mt. Carmel she was the daughter of the late Roy and Ruth Humiston Whitham and had been a Newington resident for more than forty years before moving to Torrington. Shirley had been a member of the Church of Christ, Congregational, the Eastern Star, Newington Grange, the American Legion Women's Auxiliary and the Newington Senior Citizens. She had been employed by the Town of Newington as a Crossing Guard for many years. Shirley is survived by her son Charles W. Beach and his wife Donna of Torrington; her daughter Sharon Haggart and her husband Christopher of Barkhamsted; and her daughter in-law Betsy Beach of East Hampton; her two brothers Robert Whitham of Oregon and Roy Whitham, Jr. of Idaho; her sisters Carol Clark of Maine and Ali Fogg of Old Saybrook; her six grandchildren Jason, Jeremy and Kimberly Beach, Katie Beaupre, Lori Boyajian, and Brenda Haggart; her seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Edward Beach. Her Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, CT with Pastor Don Carpenter officiating. Interment will be in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Newington Memorial.
