Steven Heller Obituary

Published by Weed Corley Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services - Lake Travis on Jan. 27, 2017.
Steven Andrew John Heller, beloved son of Mary Ann and Andrew Heller passed away on January 27, 2017. He was 28 years old. Steven was born in Houston on June 24, 1988 and was adopted by Mary Ann and Andrew with the support and encouragement of their friend Steve Jobs, who was himself an adopted child. Steven was named in his honor and was a blessing for the Hellers. The first thing you noticed about Steven was his bright blue eyes. He was a curious child that grew up surrounded by entrepreneurs, scientists, engineers and programmers. Steven attended Dominican Academy, Lake Travis elementary, Saint Gabriel's, Saint Michael's and Austin High. After high school Steven attended The Culinary Institute in Austin where he became a skilled chef. He enjoyed sports playing baseball and football as a youngster. Andrew taught Steven to snow ski and it remained a passion throughout his life. Steven's other passions included Ferris wheels, a large collection of Nike sneakers and listening to and making rap music. Although his musical interests were not in the same genre as his parents, Steven did inherit a love for all things musical from them and was working on completion of his studies to become a recording engineer. He enjoyed helping his friends create and record their music and liked exploring the sound of alternative and cutting edge music. Steven was most proud of his parents and grateful for their continuing love and support. He was happiest and most at home with them in Lakeway and enjoyed swimming under the shelter of the massive oak trees. In recent days Steven was also proud of making plans for a new direction for his life dedicated to music. He was a special, warm hearted person who loved children and animals and will be forever cherished and missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his brother, Lawrence Paton and his parents Mary Ann and Andrew Heller of Lakeway and Austin. There will be a Visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1st, at Weed-Corley Fish Funeral Home, 411 Ranch Road 620 South in Lakeway. Funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. on February 2nd, at Emmaus Catholic Church, 1718 Lohmans Crossing Rd. in Lakeway. Donations in Steven's memory may be made to the Long Center for the endowment of the High School Musical Theater Awards program. http://thelongcenter.org/greater-austin-high-school-musical-theatre-awards/

Mary Ann and Andrew, my sincere heartfelt sympathy and condolences for the loss of your son, Steven. My heart goes out to you. The loss of a child is about the worst experience parents or loved ones can experience. I have been through this in my family several times. Time does help, but as each day goes on, the loss is always there. Life is not fair. Alma

21 years ago I was your nanny. I will never forget your smile and silliness. I will never forget your ability to make people laugh. I will never forget your love of adventure. I will never forget reading you stories at bedtime. I will always remember your hugs and your tender heart. I shed many tears when heard of your passing. You left us too soon.

Andrew and Mary Ann, we are both sad and sorry about your recent loss of Steven. We got to know him quite well from conversations at Sherry and Carmelo's house. Steven was both energetic and open to new things and ideas, and always pushing boundaries. He was friendly almost to a fault. We know there was a long struggle, but that now peace of a kind has prevailed. We wish you both the contentment that can come from knowing that Steven is now surrounded by peacefulness and calm and that it is without end. Know that he is well attended.

I met Steven at summer school when we were 11 or 12 and have maintained a friendship since that time. He was always making me laugh and talking about his beautiful daughter. The last time I spoke to him, he was staying with his family, in lakeway. He seemed so happy and positive. I will miss him so much.
