Sylvia May Grant was born on September 10, 1954, in Manchester, Jamaica. She was a compassionate, thoughtful, generous, and dedicated woman who touched the lives of many. Sylvia's love for her family and friends knew no bounds, and she was a shining example of what it meant to live a life filled with love and kindness. As Maya Angelou once said, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Sylvia made everyone around her feel special, loved, and appreciated.
Sylvia's dedication to her work as an oncology nurse at Prince George's Hospital Center exemplified her selfless spirit and commitment to helping others. She was a devoted member of the Faith Fellowship Church, where she practiced her faith and found solace in the love and support of her fellow church members. In her free time, Sylvia enjoyed nurturing her plants, scrolling through Facebook while listening to Jamaican church services, going for morning walks, taking advantage of her senior citizen discount at Ross Dress for Less on Tuesdays, and embarking on extended trips because, as she would say, "she was retired, and she could do what she wanted."
Sylvia is survived by her devoted husband, Cornell Grant, whom she married on March 26, 1977; her three adoring daughters, Michelle Miller, Shelly Tang, and Carlene Ainsworth; her five loving grandchildren, David Miller, Malaysia Tang, Maliyah Tang, Dillon C. Ainsworth, and Melanie Ainsworth; three amazing son-in-laws, Darrin Miller, Tuan Tang, and Dillon A. Ainsworth; seven wonderful siblings Pauline Leo, Faithlyn Hazel, Angella Forbes, Mervis Calwise, Vivine Reid, Donna Nelson, and Grace Nelson, and many friends and colleagues. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathaniel and Winifred Nelson and her brothers Basil and Verold Nelson. The visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at 10:00 am EDT at New Mt. Olivet Apostolic Church, 5908 Addison Road, Seat Pleasant, Maryland, 20743. The homegoing celebration will follow at 11:00 am EDT at the same venue.
