Tim Allen
Greenville, SC
J. Tim Allen, 61, husband of Kathryn Richardson Allen, died Tuesday, March 16, 2010.
Born in Greenville, Tim was the son of Joe Thomas Allen, of Greenville; and the late Willene Enloe Allen. He was a 1966 graduate of Greenville High School and was dubbed “MR. ATHLETIC by the students of the school and was named captain of the high school football team.
He attended and graduated from Georgia Military College in 1968 at the top of his class. He attended University of Mississippi and served in the United States Air Force for three years during the Vietnam War.
He went to work for Winn Dixie Food Stores following his honorable discharge from the military and became manager of the Winn Dixie Store in Tampa, FL.
He returned to Greenville in 1983 to work with his father as a partner in JTA Factoring, Inc., forerunner and innovator of the factoring industry in the Southeast. Due to the sound business acumen and philosophy of his father and Tim, they sold the business and he retired in 1997.
Tim was a faithful communicant of Christ Church Episcopal for over fifteen years and prior to that a member of Eastlan Baptist Church.
Tim was a member of the Greenville Cotillion Club, the Reserve Golf Club at Pawley’s Island, and Verdae Green Golf Club. He was also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Tim loved and excelled in golf until five weeks ago and had volunteered with the BMW Charity Pro-Am for the past five years. He was a voluntary reader for his grandson’s first grade class.
He was a coach of the Greenville High School Girls Tennis Team from 2002 – 2004. He also took great joy in constantly beating his friends and family in Ping Pong and Pool. He never lost because he made you keep playing until he won.
In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by his stepmother, Linda Hartsell Allen, and his children, Mark Timothy Allen; Mary Kathryn Allen; and grandson, Joe Thomas Allen II.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 3pm at Christ Church Episcopal. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 – 8:30pm at The Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive.
With whole truth, Tim Allen was loved and respected by every person whom he knew and became acquainted with. He had many friends, too numerous to name.
We have lost a human blessing. The Good Lord has now gained a joyful member into His Kingdom of Paradise.
The family requests flowers be omitted and all memorials be made to the Sarcoma Foundation of America, 9884 Main Street, Damascus, MD 20872 or www.curesarcoma.org/index.php/fundraiser/tim_allen_memorial/ ; a severely underfunded charitable organization that is combating this insidious cancer.
