WILLIAMSBURG – William Dennis MacQueston, 64, passed away on Nov. 1, 2009, All Saints Day, at Sentara CarePlex Hospital. Born on Nov. 21, 1944, in Worcester, Massachusetts, he graduated from North High School, earned an Associates degree from Quinsigamond Community College and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Worcester State College both located in Worcester. He worked as a first-class lineman for New England Power Service Company before retiring to Williamsburg in 1991. He served six years in the Massachusetts Army National Guard and was honorably discharged with a rank of PFC E-3. While living in Massachusetts, Bill was an active volunteer at the Old Sturbridge Village Research Library where he assisted with the conservation of rare books and manuscripts. Mr. MacQueston and his wife were an early service usher team at St. Stephen Lutheran Church. An avid golfer, Bill was a member of the Tuesday morning Amoco group at Deer Run. Bill was recognized by the Virginia Golf Association as a hole-in-one recipient several years ago – an award that brought him much joy. He belonged to the Williamsburg James City County Recreation Center and enjoyed his many friends during workouts. Bill had a passion for classic cars and music from the 1950’s. He loved cruising to Bermuda and throughout the Caribbean with his wife. Bill was a deeply devoted husband and caring friend. Mr. MacQueston was preceded in death by his parents, Harold J. MacQueston, Sr. and Alice (Farrell) MacQueston, and his brothers, Kenneth and Harold J. MacQueston, Jr. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife and best friend of 36 years, Janis C. (Lindblad) MacQueston; two sisters, Ellen, wife of Gary Adams of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, Judith MacQueston of Worcester; nieces, Brittany MacQueston of Barre, Massachusetts and Callie MacQueston, of Vinalhaven, Maine; Kris A. Drury, of Westminster, Massachusetts; Kim P. Hanlon, of Worcester and Becky Hardin, of Caldwell, Idaho, four great-nieces and four great nephews. He also leaves his sister in-law, Carole L. MacQueston, of Vinalhaven; sister and brother-in law Dianne and Richard Drury of Westminster, cousins and a host of wonderful friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 5, at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 612 Jamestown Rd., Williamsburg, VA. Interment will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery. A special celebration of Bill’s life will be held for Bill’s Worcester family and friends in Worcester, Massachusetts at a later date.
