Beth Cortina

Cortina, Beth Ann (nee Nowak), age 46 years, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 14, 2011 at Edward Hospital, Naperville. Beth Ann served the City of Naperville since January 18, 1999. She joined the Naperville Police Dept. as an Emergency Communications supervisor and was promoted to the position of Communications Manager with the department in 2006. During her career at the Naperville Police Department, Beth Ann was instrumental in the Communication's Section recognition as a Flagship Agency by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Since 2007, she served as an Illinois Executive Board Member for the Association of Public Safety Communications Official (APCO) and she also was an active member for International APCO committees. She also acquired certification through APCO as a Registered Public Leader in 2007. Preceded in death by her son, Bruce Burton Jr.; and her mother, Margaret Mary Nowak. Survived by her loving husband, Nicholas Cortina Jr.; her son, Roy Aslan (Laura) Burton; her grandson, Damian Archer Burton; her father, James George Nowak; two brothers, William Charles (Elizabeth Faith) Nowak and James John "Dusty" Nowak; one sister, Tracy Lynn (William) Thompson-Przylucki; her mother-in-law, Joan Marie Cortina Cortina; sister-in-law of Ann Marie (Daniel) Erce and Louis Cortina; numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends also survive. Memorial visitation will be held at the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home 1500 Black Road on Monday, January 17, 2011 from 5 to 9pm. Memorial services will be held at the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 11:00am.
